The Manufacturing of a Scandal

Former FBI Director James Comey testified in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee today.  His heavily anticipated testimony had been played up by all the major news outlets and was even broadcast live over the cable news and big three networks.  He did not disappoint.  In fact, James Comey testifying was probably the best thing that could have happened to President Trump since his inauguration.

Prior to his testimony, the mainstream media was reporting the “sources” believed that Comey would say the President had pressured him to end the Russia investigation. (Insert sad trombone here).  It didn’t happen.  Much like James Clapper, former NSA Director, said that it didn’t happen.  The same way that Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and NSA Director Admiral Mike Rogers said that it didn’t happen, all after being reported by anonymous sources that they all would say that it did happen.  The point of all of this is that the scandals we are being told are comparable to Watergate…..are manufactured.

By who?  It’s pretty obvious at this point, but lets take a quick walk down memory lane and go over the history of this particular scandal.  5 June 2016, then FBI Director Comey goes on national television and lays out the crimes and case to prosecute Hillary Clinton, then recommends that she not be prosecuted.  Republicans were outraged, and rightfully so.  This is on the heels of then Attorney General Loretta Lynch meeting on the tarmac of a Phoenix airport with former President Bill Clinton.  Something smelled fishy, and it was fishy.  Hillary Clinton thought she was in the clear and was primed to win the 2016 Presidential Election in landslide fashion.  After all, the media helped Donald Trump to become the Republican nominee, who knew it would come back to bite them?

After the DNC Convention in July, it was revealed that John Podesta, Clinton’s Campaign Chair, had his e-mails hacked and were in the possession of Julian Assange and Wikileaks.  In typical Democrat fashion, the fingers began to point and immediately they pointed at Russia.  No evidence was presented to the public at the time, though I assume that the Clinton Campaign as well as the DNC Chair were told about this.  Donald Trump, said some stupid stuff about how he hoped that it was Russia and how he hoped that they could find the missing 30,000 emails from Hillary.  Those emails still have not been found, but what was found in the DNC emails were the blatant attempt to rig the DNC Primaries against Bernie Sanders and in favor of Hillary Clinton.  This led to the ouster of Debbie Wasserman-Schultz as the DNC Chair, and a number of other officials within the DNC also resigned.  The excuse has now been built in though.

Fast forward to October 27th, James Comey re-opens the investigation into Hillary Clinton after discovering that her top aide, Huma Abedin, had been forwarding Hillary’s emails to a computer owned by her husband, disgraced Congressman Anthony Weiner.  The emails were found during an investigation of Weiner’s sexting with a 15 year old girl.  Hoping that among the newfound evidence would be the 30,000 missing emails, the FBI worked diligently and after 4 days concluded that there was still nothing to charge Hillary Clinton with despite finding previously unknown classified emails on Anthony Weiner’s computer, who presumably had lost his security clearance after his first sexting scandal.  The damage was done though and Hillary lost the election.

Ever since the election, there has been a constant drumbeat of Russia hacking the election, despite the assurance by President Obama that the election could not be rigged. There must have been some reason that Hillary lost the election other than she ran a horrible camping.  Trump must have been colluding with the Russians.  Every night on all the major news networks it was Trump-Russia this or Trump-Russia that, never was there a shred of evidence, but always wild speculation.  Then the media and Democrats got the present that they had so desperately been wanting, or so they thought.

As the nominee, then Senator Jeff Sessions, did not fully disclose his completely normal meetings with Russian Ambassador Sergei Kilsyak.  Senator Chuck Schumer screamed to not confirm sessions, others decried him as a racist, Sessions cleared up the misunderstanding by issuing a correction in his testimony.  In his correction, he claimed that he did not understand the question about his meetings with the Russian Ambassador to be in such broad context, rather in the context of him being a surrogate for Candidate Donald Trump.  That story quickly faded.  Then came Mike Flynn, President Trumps National Security Advisor.  This was the guy that was going to finish off President Trump and cause his impeachment to go forth.

Mike Flynn had contacted Russian Ambassador Kilsyak, after the election, and began discussing matters moving forward between the Trump administration and the Kremlin. This was unacceptable in the eyes of Democrats, because they needed something to substantiate all their claims of collusion during the election.  Trump subsequently fires Mike Flynn, not because of his conversations, which were totally normal for an incoming administration, but because Flynn had mislead Vice President Mike Pence.  Seems fair.  Except that Trump, being Trump, decided to have a one on one meeting with Director James Comey.

In this meeting, Comey claims that the President had said that Mike Flynn was a good guy and that he hoped that the FBI could see their way to letting the Flynn thing go.  Mike Flynn was under a criminal investigation at the time.  Sounds fishy by the President, except that nobody finds out about this meeting until after 5 months have passed and Director Comey is fired by President Trump.  AG Sessions had already recused himself of all things Russia, and there has still been no evidence brought forth of any collusion between Trump or any of his surrogates and Russia.

Okay, so maybe it wasn’t a quick stroll, but everybody should be all caught up now. So James Comey is testifying in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee, and he excoriates President Trump in his opening statement.  He said that Trump lied about the reasons he was fired.  I agree, I do not think that Comey was fired for poor leadership and disarray within the FBI, I think he was fired for not saying publicly what he and Trump knew privately, that President Trump was not under investigation. Comey even testifies that on 3 separate occasions he informed President Trump, unsolicited, that the President was not under investigation.

So that should blow up the whole Trump-Russia collusion story.  Comey goes on to testify that he felt uncomfortable being alone in a room with the President to discuss different matters.  This is what prompts him to make memos of his conversations with the President, a practice he has never done in the past.  Fair enough.  He also testified that the President would like to know if any of his “satellites” did anything wrong, presumably to fire them as well if they did.  Then the bombshell, Comey testified that it was he who leaked the information on his memo, via third-party, to the press.  He did not produce the actual memo as he claimed that those are now in the possession of Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

This revelation was huge, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), pressed Comey on the leaks.  Asking why the only thing to not leak about the investigation was the fact that the President was not personally under investigation.  Comey’s response…..”I don’t know”.  This one question and answer was the biggest present the President could have gotten today.  It actually shows an effort in the FBI to undermine the President of the United States in a political manner.  This same effort was not given during the Hillary investigation.  An investigation in which Comey testified that then AG Loretta Lynch had asked Director Comey to not call it an “investigation”, but refer to it as a “matter”, oddly enough that was the exact same language being used by the Clinton campaign to describe the investigation into her.

So was there collusion?  Perhaps, but not between the President and the Russians, and so far there is no evidence of anybody on his campaign colluding with the Russians.  No, in fact there is more evidence to show that during the election, the FBI and DOJ colluded to ensure that Hillary Clinton was not brought up on charges for the crimes she committed and that were outlined by Director Comey on 5 June 2016.  Her not being charged was supposed to lead to her being elected as the First Female President of the United States.  When the plan failed, they had a built-in excuse.  The only problem is that our current President is like a bull in a china shop, and in his reckless nature he is exposing just how corrupt our government is, even if it is by accident, but you won’t hear about that on any of the mainstream media, they are busy trying to pivot to a new scandal so that the President stays distracted and can’t reveal the corruption and collusion between the media and the Democrat Party.
